⚙️ EJ Mafia x Bandy Tuned – FAQ

What Subaru models do you tune?
We specialize in 2000–2014 Subaru turbo models, including WRX, STI, Forester XT, Legacy GT, Outback XT, and Baja Turbo.
2002–2003 WRX ECUs support Carberry ROM, allowing advanced features like Launch Control and Burble maps.
All other models are tuned using OpenECU and custom EJ Mafia x Bandy calibrations — built for power, reliability, and drivability.
What’s the difference between Carberry and OpenECU tuning?
Carberry ROM is a specialized firmware upgrade for early 2002–2003 WRX ECUs that unlocks advanced features like Launch Control, Flat-Foot Shifting, and Burble/Crackle maps.
OpenECU tuning is used on later Subarus, offering full custom calibration without modifying the ROM — ideal for newer 32-bit ECUs.
In short: Carberry = feature-rich classic tuning; OpenECU = flexible and modern precision tuning.
Do I need a pre-tune inspection?
Yes — every tuning appointment starts with a $200 pre-tune inspection.
This includes a compression test, borescope inspection, smoke test, spark plug gap check, MAF sensor inspection, and an overall vehicle health evaluation.
If your car fails inspection, tuning can’t proceed, but you’ll receive a detailed report of findings and recommendations.
What does a tune include?
Each tune includes:
- Up to 8 tune revisions
- 1 hour of live street tuning with Bandy
- 1 follow-up e-tune revision
- Setup of supported ECU features like Launch Control, Flat-Foot Shifting, Burble, and Rolling Anti-Lag
- Custom calibration tailored to your car’s setup and goals
Do you offer Speed Density or Flex Fuel tuning?
Speed Density tuning is supported only on specific ECUs.
Flex Fuel can be added on select 32-bit Subaru platforms.
We’ll review your setup during the consultation to confirm compatibility and recommend the best path for your goals.
How much does tuning cost?
- Base Tune Package – $800 (up to three modifications)
- Advanced Tune Package – $1,250 (four+ mods, turbo/injector swaps, etc.)
Both include pre-tune inspection, 8 revisions, and 1 hour of live tuning.

Do you work on cars other than Subaru?
Our focus and specialty are Subaru platforms, but we occasionally take on select high-performance vehicles for diagnostic or consultation work. For non-Subaru projects, availability depends on the scope — call us to discuss your goals.
What’s included in a 1-hour diagnostic & consultation?
Our 1-hour diagnostic and consultation ($199) includes a system scan, mechanical evaluation, and expert consultation for drivability, tuning readiness, or upgrade planning. Perfect for troubleshooting or mapping out your next build.
Can you help plan a performance build or turbo setup?
Absolutely. Our team will review your goals, budget, and existing modifications to design a reliable, high-performance setup that makes sense for your platform. We’ll also verify ECU compatibility and tuning potential before any parts are ordered.
Do you offer maintenance services?
Yes, but selectively. We handle maintenance directly tied to performance reliability — such as spark plugs, coil packs, fluids, sensors, and pre-tune prep. We’re not a general repair shop, but we keep your Subaru running like it should before and after the tune.
Do you guarantee your tuning work?
Yes. If you’re not completely satisfied with your tune, we’ll make it right. Our goal is simple — you don’t leave disappointed, you leave impressed. That’s the EJ Mafia promise.
🏎️ Performance & Upgrades FAQ
Do you build engines?
Yes — EJ Mafia offers full Subaru engine builds designed for your power goals, driving style, and reliability needs. From street-driven setups to high-boost track builds, every engine is blueprint-assembled and precision-balanced for maximum performance and longevity.
Can I bring my own parts?
In most cases, yes — but all customer-supplied parts must be inspected and approved before installation or tuning. We don’t tune or install questionable or low-quality components that could compromise your build. If it’s junk, we’ll tell you straight up.
What upgrades do you recommend before tuning?
At minimum, we recommend a healthy fuel system, clean MAF and O2 sensors, properly gapped plugs, and a leak-free intake and exhaust setup. For power upgrades, a quality downpipe, intercooler, and boost control system are great starting points. We’ll verify your setup during the pre-tune inspection.
Do you install aftermarket parts?
Yes. We handle installation for most performance parts including intakes, intercoolers, injectors, exhausts, and turbo systems. Installation availability depends on your setup and schedule — book early to secure a spot.
Can you tune flex fuel or E85?
Yes — if your ECU supports it and your fuel system is properly equipped. We’ll review compatibility during your pre-tune inspection and confirm whether your platform can safely support flex fuel or E85 tuning.
How much power will my car make?
That depends on your mods, fuel, and ECU capability. We don’t sell unrealistic dyno numbers — we deliver real-world performance you can feel every time you drive. Every tune is built for reliability first, power second, and bragging rights come naturally.
